What is Holistic Massage?

Holistic Massage is very different from other kinds of massage, and its healing properties can outweigh other kinds of massage – although there is, obviously, a place and time for everything.
Holistic Massage works with the whole person, and in order to do this, the therapist needs to be able to tune into you. They do this through a felt sense, and sometimes they have other abilities to sense energy, too.
Some people, especially those who are sensitive to energy, really appreciate and sometimes need this in order to be able to relax. For others, it can be a bit intimate.
Felt sense
A Holistic Massage Therapist has been trained to sense your energy as soon as they come in contact with you. They will take time to chat before your session and get an idea of:
· The state of your nervous system
· Your sense of self
· Your emotional state
· Your mental state
· Your ability to self-regulate (calm yourself down)
· Any physical imbalances.

If your nervous system is in hypervigilance, which it is for a surprising amount of people, the therapist will first focus on calming it down. Without a calm nervous system, healing is practically impossible, and they will just end up fighting your body.
This is very different from other kinds of massage, where the therapist may apply strong pressure and precise moves to relieve muscle pain.
Your sense of self, as well as your emotional and mental state, determines how the practitioner will touch you. For example, if you’re lacking confidence, the therapist will touch you with a sense of support. If you are hard on yourself, the practitioner may choose to touch you with love in their being. If you’re grieving, they will touch you with love.
This ‘energetic attitude’ of the practitioner is felt by the body of the client and helps give relief and raise their vibrations. This is why many people report feeling lighter after a Holistic Massage.
Sometimes, your body is very clear that it wants to address a physical imbalance, in which case the Holistic Massage Therapist will check this imbalance and see if they can figure out where this imbalance stems from. This could be trauma or emotion stuck in the body, it could be a weak or over-used muscle, or a disconnect between your feminine and masculine energies, for example. The therapist will listen to your body and seek to bring back harmony.
From this, it will be clear that Holistic Massage is a very comprehensive therapy that can deal with a lot of different imbalances.
Some Holistic Massage therapists have been trained to do deep tissue and/or therapeutic massage, others specialize in Swedish massage which is more aimed towards relaxation.
At Soul Direction, I mainly use Holistic Massage as a whole-body therapy that aims to bring back harmony in the body. I specialize in Stress and Trauma stored in the body, and most of my clients come on a monthly basis to make sure they stay strong, healthy and happy.
